How to turn a boy's shirt into a girl's shirt???

My friend was telling me about a clothing store that has tips on their website on how to turn a boy's t-shirt into a more fitting one for a girl. It had fabric from the shirt criss-crossing in the back. I would love to find out how to at least make guy's shirts permanently fit well. [for a cute curvy body].
