What guitar to by for singer song writter?

I play mostly rhythm and a little lead.Im a singer song writer and play for other bands.im not sure weather to by a fender strat or tele or something like a gibson. i play alot of country,texas country.I really like the melow sound but find sometimes its hard to hear when playing with a band.somebody help me out.oh i all ready have a good acoustic guitar
